Purchase Prize Winners


2008 Winners Selected at Portside Arts Fair

The work of four artists were deemed to be the most outstanding by judge Cinda WR Schantz at the 46th Annual Portside Arts Fair held on August 2-3, in East Jordan.  Receiving purchase prize awards in the 2-dimensional category were photographer, Beverly Benson Wolf of Waterford for her photo of Cincinnati buildings and oil painter, Josh Skeel of Charlevoix for his “One Too Many” bar scene. The winners in the 3-dimensional category were glass artist, Carol Lahy of Florida for her fused glass tile inspired by the Amish and folk artist, Jeff Adams of East Jordan for his 5 foot tall wooden robot “Roy”.  Wolf, Skeel and Lahy were first time exhibitors at the Fair and all four artists were first time purchase winners.  The selected purchased art will be displayed in the Cygred Riley Gallery at Elm Pointe.  Purchase awards were supported through the generosity of Charlevoix State Bank and East Jordan Plastics.

In addition to the purchase prize awards, Ms. Schantz also presented honorable mention ribbons to the following artists:  wood artist, Hal Frout of Grand Rapids; stoneware potter, Leif Sporck of Suttons Bay; mixed media painter, Lori Taylor of Pinckney and stoneware potters, Ron and Cynthia Tschudy of East Jordan.
