Visit the Museum
Visit the original museum founded in 1976 as the first established historical museum in Charlevoix County located on the Elm Pointe Estate. Seasonal displays include agriculture, artifacts from the lumbering era, trains, local industry and historic church window, many photos and records, including an 1887 Commercial House register with signatures of many well known local historical figures and much more.
The student docent program is returning for another year. Children in third through tenth grade are dressed in period costume and will be stationed around the museum to talk about the history of East Jordan. Students appear at special museum events and during the Portside Arts Fair.
After concluding your tour of the museum, step into the Cygred Riley Art Gallery with its impressive collection of Purchase Prize paintings and crafts from the annual Portside Arts Fair 1971 to the present.
Still haven't seen enough history? The Society's "It's History" Museum is located at the downtown Masonic Building (between city hall and Subway). Enter through city hall Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and take a self-guided tour into East Jordan's entertaining past. Meet the National Smelt King, get acquainted with the Loveday Opera House and Temple Theater, look at the Hometown Pride display and more.
Admission is FREE to both museums. Donations are appreciated.
